Hair Fitness

Well, it's mid-way through January, and I must say I impressed. For the past two weeks, the normally quiet work-out room in my building has been packed every time I've gone to exercise. I'm used to seeing this the first couple days of the month, but usually by this point people have already ditched the resolution and I have the equipment pretty much to myself. Maybe it's the frigid temperatures outside that are keeping everyone indoors and antsy. Maybe - like for me - exercising is a way to avoid passing my free time at the mall, spending money I should be saving. Or maybe there is a genuine commitment to better health.

Of course, with more people in the work-out room now, I have become more conscious of my appearance. When it was just me, worn-out clothes and no makeup was fine. Now that I always seem to end up on the treadmill next to the cute guy who lives down the hall, I find myself taking a little extra time primping before going to exercise. Of course, not everyone has the convenience of running upstairs after their work-out to clean up. Which leads to the question of how to handle post-workout hair. If you're in between blow-outs or have errands to run before heading home to shower, a dry shampoo is the perfect product to freshen up your hair. I recommend the Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo, which uses rice starch to absorb the oils on your scalp, restoring body and movement to your hair.

If you are planning to wash your hair right after your work-out, and aren't aiming to impress the guy on the treadmill, applying a deep conditioning product to your hair before exercising is a great way to get extra conditioning time. This works best for those who can put their hair up in a ponytail, applying the conditioner only to the ends so as not to have product dripping down your scalp once you hit your target heart rate. I recommend the Rene Furterer Karite Oil or Prive Leave-In Treatment, but we also offer other great choices depending on your hair type and degree of dryness. With these few simple tools in your gym bag, you can cross two resolutions off your list - having a great body and having great body (in your hair).
