Happy New Year

Well, the new year has blown in - literally! Wow, did we ever have an exceptionally windy New Year's Eve. The wind-blown look was definitely the way to go for party hair that night. Now, of course, the New Year ritual of "out with the old, in with the new" has begun. It seemed like every client who came in the salon today experienced their hair service as a cathartic process - washing hair was also cleansing away toxins and stress; cutting hair was letting go of last year's problems; coloring hair was beginning the year with a fresh start.

January has actually become one of my favorite times of year at the salon. The holidays are exciting, but at some point everything gets so hectic that clients literally seem to be running in and out, shouting "Happy Holidays" as they rush off to the next errand on their checklist. Come January, the atmosphere is more relaxed, allowing us time to actually catch up with our clients. There is a positive energy in the air, as we anticipate everything this new year can offer us. Even with the uncertainties that lay ahead, there is still the feeling of possibility.

What about the hair news for 2009, you're probably wondering? The looks appear to be simplified and streamlined, reflecting an overall lifestyle change. But there is plenty of time to discuss that later. For now, I simply want to wish you all the best for the new year. Take the time to enjoy this moment, and allow yourself the chance to refresh, revitalize, and renew.
