Summer Stock

Summer is officially here, bringing with it the two most pressing concerns for every woman: Finding the right pair of summer sandals, and figuring out what to do about "summer hair." It seems like summer is the season where people struggle with their hair the most. It's hot and sticky outside, so should you chop your hair off, or keep it long so you can wear it up? How can you get away with not having to use hot styling tools, but still look polished? Must fun in the sun always lead to dry hair and faded color? And the number one question - what to do about frizz?

You're on your own with sandals. But the solution to your hair concerns is: products. Do you have the right products for your summer hair? Generally, you don't need the heavy products you use during the winter months. If you're using an intensive conditioner, try switching to a lightweight cream rinse. But if you're out in the sun a lot, the UV rays can be just as damaging to your hair as dry winter air. Rene Furterer has a line of pre- and post- sun exposure products that offer keratin protection (like SPF for your hair) and moisture-replenishing ingredients. If you're in the pool a lot, be sure to use a clarifying product regularly to remove chlorine build-up.

Frizz, of course, is the ultimate summer hair challenge. As I mentioned in my last blog, frizzy hair is the trend for the summer. But frizz in a "I was just hanging out at the beach all day" way, and not a Roseanne Rosannadanna way. Whether you're trying to manage your frizz, or would rather skip the trend and eliminate frizz altogether, using the right conditioner is key. The Myrrhea line from Rene Furterer is made from avocado oil and contains myrrh, which seals the hair cuticle to prevent frizz. And if you're putting your hairdryer and flat iron on summer hiatus, the Prive Curl Activating Creme is a great product to hold your curls or waves in place. Whether you decide to go long or short with the length, remember that the right products will be the key to a good hair summer. Well, and the right sandals.
