Hot Head

I don't need a calendar to tell me when summer starts.  All I have to do is look at my hair.  When the heat and humidity make me feel like the lock-mess monster, I know it's time to discuss summer hair care routines.  For me, this means getting a Brazilian Blowout, so I can get rid of my frizz and avoid blow-drying.  Our appointment book has been filled with BBOs the past few weeks, as everyone wants to get theirs now to get through the summer months.  Since they last for twelve weeks, this is the perfect time to schedule one if you haven't yet.

For those of you who don't suffer from summer frizzin', it is still just as important to consider your summer hair care.  Anyone who spends time in the sun, surf, pool, or golf course should be using a product with a Keratin Protection Factor - KPF, similar to SPF for skin.  Rene Furterer has an extensive sun care line that includes pre-sun exposure products that block UV rays, a shampoo that removes chlorine and sea salt, and a conditioner that in my opinion smells just like a Hawaiian sunset.

Over these first hot days of summer, we've had a number of clients coming in to chop off their long locks.  There is something so refreshing about having that hair off your neck on those sticky humid days.  For those who want to keep your hair long, the good news is that summer styles are über-casual.  No complicated braids or twists that require four hands to assemble.  But make sure your messy ponytail says "yacht party" and not "shipwrecked" by keeping your hair healthy and shiny with a weekly deep conditioning and monthly color or gloss.

The June issue of Glamour has some fun, easy styles for long hair.  Try them out, and remember the saying, "When it's hot, the best way to feel cool is to look good." (....so maybe nobody said it, but somebody should.)  Stay cool!
