As I write, we are in the middle of putting out the holiday decorations at Salon A. Or, more accurately, others are decorating and I am looking for an excuse to take a break. Try as I might, I always struggle to get into the holiday spirit. The exhaustive search to find the perfect gift for the person who has everything, the frantic coordinating of schedules with busy friends to make time for a holiday drink, and my frustration that out of all the lovely holiday music out there, "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" remains so overplayed. It all leaves me crying, "Bah, humbug!"
If you also struggle with your inner Scrooge, I suggest you ignore the ghosts of Christmas past and future, and focus on the present. A present for you, that is. Take a break from the holiday madness and do something nice for yourself. A scalp massage and conditioning treatment for your hair plus a mani/pedi will give you tidings of comfort and joy. Or try Lena's new Gold Facial, which will leave even the wisest of men & women asking for "myrrh, myrrh, myrrh." If you simply can't make the time for a salon treatment, pick up the products and pamper yourself at home. Tell your Tiny Tims that the fastest way to get on Santa's good list is to give mama a head and foot massage.
As selfish as it may sound, the best gift you can give to others is a joyful and glowing you. If you're just one Jingle Bell too many from turning into the crazy Target lady, then what the Dickens are you waiting for? Take a break for yourself. You deserve to enjoy the holiday season, not just get through it.
